The Night Before

Locate the title and confirm the name on it matches yours
Empty the glovebox, console, trunk and spare-tire well
Remove the garage remote, toll transponder and any parking permits
Photograph the vehicle from four angles and the odometer

Pickup Day

Sign the title on the donor line only
Set out the keys, or confirm the arrangement if you will be away
Clear access for the tow truck
Take the tow receipt from the driver, or ask for it by email

After the Vehicle Leaves

File your state's release of liability or notice of transfer
Remove and surrender plates if your state requires it
Cancel insurance and registration
File the tow receipt with your tax records and watch for Form 1098-C if the vehicle sells above $500
