The Complete Car Donation Pickup Checklist

Print this checklist before your car donation pickup — documents, personal items, plates, and the steps that protect you after the tow.

Documents to Have Ready

Signed vehicle title (signed exactly as instructed when you scheduled). Photo ID. Any lien release paperwork if a lender recently held the title. Your pickup confirmation details.

Items to Remove From the Vehicle

Check the glove box, trunk, center console, door pockets, seat backs, and under seats. Remove toll transponders, garage remotes, parking passes, and anything with personal data. Don't forget aftermarket items you want to keep.

After the Truck Leaves

Cancel your insurance policy on the vehicle. Complete your state's release-of-liability or transfer notice — this protects you if the car is ticketed before resale. Store your pickup receipt and later Form 1098-C with your tax records.
