Donate a Truck, SUV, or Van to Help Veterans

Pickup trucks, SUVs, work vans and cargo vans are high-value donations. Here is what they bring and how pickup works.

Larger Vehicles Carry More Value

Trucks and vans hold value longer than most sedans because commercial buyers, tradespeople, and fleet operators bid on them at auction even at high mileage.

That often means a larger deduction from the same amount of effort on your part.

What Is Accepted

Half-ton and heavy-duty pickups, cargo and passenger vans, wheelchair-accessible vans, SUVs of any size, and box or utility-bodied light trucks. Running or not, with or without commercial lettering.

Removing decals is optional; processors handle it.

Business and Fleet Donations

If the vehicle is titled to a business, the entity that owns it claims the deduction, and depreciation already taken affects the basis. C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietors are each treated differently.

Fleet donors retiring multiple units can schedule a single multi-vehicle pickup. Ask about it when you call.

Preparing a Work Vehicle

Remove tools, ladders, racks you intend to keep, GPS trackers, fuel cards, and any customer records. Cancel commercial insurance and any DOT registrations after the vehicle is towed.

Note any aftermarket equipment staying with the truck; it counts toward the sale value.

Scheduling Heavy Pickup

Give the coordinator the weight class, whether it rolls and steers, and any access limits at the site. Larger equipment is dispatched when needed at no cost to you.
